TikTok’s latest beauty trend, ‘Espresso Makeup,’ is brewing up a storm in the beauty industry. This trend is the perfect antidote to its lighter summer equivalent, ‘Latte Makeup,’ offering a more intense, richer look that evokes the deep tones of a freshly brewed espresso. With the likes of celebrities such as Hailey Bieber and Emily Ratajkowski getting on board, and a staggering 54.6 million views on TikTok, this sultry and versatile look is set to become a mainstay in our makeup routines.

The essence of ‘Espresso Makeup’ lies in its full-bodied brown tones, which include a smoky eye in mocha shades and glossy, chocolate-colored lips. This combination creates an alluring and intense aura that is perfect for the festive season’s rich and intense evenings. To achieve this striking look, focus on bold, dark eyeshadows, defined cheekbones, and lips with a luscious chocolate hue. The end result is a captivating makeup look that mirrors the richness of a cup of espresso and is sure to make you the center of attention at any festive event.

Saffron Hughes, the resident makeup artist at False Eyelashes, describes this look as a ‘siren’ eye makeup style coupled with a more natural complexion. Think sultry eyes, sculpted cheeks, and full lips – the perfect blend for an unforgettable evening look. Hughes points out that this trend is ideal for the festive period when everyone wants to dazzle with an espresso martini in hand. So this season, swap your latte for the allure of ‘Espresso Makeup’ for a chic and trendy beauty statement.

According to Hughes, the first step to achieving this look is to use a primer. This helps your makeup last longer and creates a flawless base for the espresso-inspired look. Then, choose a foundation that offers sheer to medium coverage for a naturally radiant look, even in the midst of winter. To ensure a flawless finish, set your foundation with a translucent powder to control shine and maintain a long-lasting glow, keeping you looking fresh throughout the season.

Hughes suggests using a matte bronzer to lightly contour the face and infuse warmth into your complexion. “With your matte bronzer and a fluffy contour brush, focus on adding warmth and definition to the hollows of your cheeks, temples, and jawline,” she recommends.

For eyebrows, Hughes recommends a fluffy brow look. Depending on the desired result, you can use a brow gel/mascara to fluff the brow hairs up and into place or use a brow glue or balm with a spoolie to fluff the brow hairs up and then lay them flat to the skin for the laminated look. “Brushing the eyebrow hairs upwards, especially the outer hairs, can create the illusion of a facelift while giving yourself more eyelid space to work with,” she adds.

The key to this look is the ‘siren’ eyes. Start by applying a dark espresso brown hue to your crease and outer corner to enhance your eyes and provide that tantalizing definition. Once you’re satisfied with the bold look, sweep a cocoa brown or soft taupe shade across the eyelids. Then, define the crease with a rich brown eyeshadow, blending outward for a lifted effect. To increase the drama, smudge the rich brown shade along the lower lash line. This technique will make your eyes pop.

For eyeliner, Hughes advises using a dark espresso brown shade to complete the look. Depending on your eye shape, different eyeliner techniques can be used to enhance and balance your eyes.

To finish off the ‘Espresso Makeup’ trend, Hughes highlights the importance of lashes to enhance the eyes. “Complete the look by opting for a mascara that encourages length and volume on the outer corner, or consider using wispy false lashes to add drama and a fluttery effect,” she suggests. “They can truly elevate the espresso-inspired makeup look and make your eyes the focal point.”

Lastly, Hughes recommends choosing a brown shade, such as Valentino Beauty Brow Trio in Taupe as a lip liner. “Finish the look with a nude lipstick, like MAC Thanks It’s MAC. And there you have it – the Espresso Makeup, an enchanting and intense beauty trend.
